Take Action Against Gun Violence Weds. Sept. 25th

We will thank retail chains for leadership against gun violence

9/17/2019

The public is invited to join Englewood Indivisible members in holding signs about gun violence at the intersection of Dearborn Street and State Route 776 on Wednesday, September 25th, at 8:30 AM.

Many of the signs will thank big retailers such as Walmart and Publix for their leadership in limiting firearms sales and open carry of guns in their stores.

This "honk and wave," is Englewood Indivisible's first of the season. Members want to recognize Walmart's decision, following last month's massacre at an El Paso Walmart, to stop selling ammunition for military-style weapons as well as some firearms. Members also want to recognize the decision of Walmart and a growing number of big retailers to no longer allow customers to openly carry firearms in their stores.

The honk and wave comes as chief executives of some of the nation’s best-known companies sent a letter to Senate leaders urging them to expand background checks to all firearms sales and pass stronger “red flag” laws, which enable authorities to temporarily remove firearms from those deemed dangerous.

It is planned to last one hour, until 9:30 AM.

Please email questions about the honk and wave to EnglewoodIndivisible@gmail.com.
